November Highlights
The weather was quite warm for much of the month so we got outside a lot. We also started letting Petra explore food.
Visiting the playground; making a style statement:

also, in video:
Petra and the Slippery Cucmber from Matt McKeon on Vimeo.
Petra gets an airplane ride from Daddy (anything to trick her into “tummy time”):

and, just at the very end of the month, she started sitting up on her own:

As always, more photos on Flickr.

These are great photos!
But nearly all the photos seem to contradict the fashion statement made in the first one.

Yeah, I know! Despite our efforts, we haven’t been able to prevent gifts of pink things. And once we have them, they will be used. Also, we actually found that we think she looks good in dark pinks.

Sophie is just loony for pink… 5 years ago I would have been more troubled by this, but now it seems pretty minor. We are fighting the princess battle, though… she hasn’t seen a single Disney movie, she doesn’t watch TV, we have no princess books, yet she still managed to get interested in it…I think probably through other girls at pre-school? I don’t know. I keep trying to turn her princess obsession into ballerina obsession, the logic being that at least you can work towards being a ballerina, but she hasn’t really bought it.

Well, probably she will grow out of it. I’ve heard similar things from a number of friends with daughters. I mean, I actually chose to paint my bedroom pink (and get a pink carpet) when we built our new house when I was about 8 … it wasn’t until high school that I became a feminist and decided pink was a tool of the oppressive patriarchy.
