I've heard similar things from a number of friends with daughters. I mean, I actually chose to paint my bedroom pink (and get a pink carpet) when we built our new house when I was about 8 ... it wasn't until high school that I became a feminist and decided pink was a tool of the oppressive patriarchy. We are fighting the princess battle, though... she hasn't seen a single Disney movie, she doesn't watch TV, we have no princess books, yet she still managed to get interested in it...I think probably through other girls at pre-school? I don't know. I keep trying to turn her princess obsession into ballerina obsession, the logic being that at least you can work towards being a ballerina, but she hasn't really bought it. Despite our efforts, we haven't been able to prevent gifts of pink things. And once we have them, they will be used. Also, we actually found that we think she looks good in dark pinks. Yeah, I know!
