I've heard similar things from a number of friends with daughters. I mean, I actually chose to paint my bedroom pink (and get a pink carpet) when we built our new house when I was about 8 ... it wasn't until high school that I became a feminist and decided pink was a tool of the oppressive patriarchy. We are fighting the princess battle, though... she hasn't seen a single Disney movie, she doesn't watch TV, we have no princess books, yet she still managed to get interested in it...I think probably through other girls at pre-school? I don't know. I keep trying to turn her princess obsession into ballerina obsession, the logic being that at least you can work towards being a ballerina, but she hasn't really bought it.
