In addition to the visits from and to family already posted about, here are some highlights from October, Petra’s 5th month. (Click on the photos for more)
Petra’s first swing
Playing at home
We took Petra on her first “hike” at Middlesex Fells while my Dad was here. She slept through most of it despite the stroller-unfriendly conditions.
A lot of traveling in October. Matt was in Atlantic City for a conference in the second week of the month, and Alison was in Denver for a conference the next weekend. We took advantage of Matt being in new Jersey to visit Alison’s grandmother with Petra.
Petra liked having her own seat on the plane.
This time she got a better chance to get to know her great grandmother.
We also caught up with some of Alison’s aunts and uncle.
September was pretty much dominated by Petra starting daycare and Alison trying to start to get back to work. Ironically, the daycare schedule has meant less sleep for me, although of course I am getting some work done, which I wasn’t over the summer. We started with a half day slot at a daycare near my office, and soon switched up to full time. Petra seems to love all the toys, friends, and attention there, so we don’t feel too bad about sending her away all day at such a young age. I can get over to feed her during the day sometimes if my schedule allows.
The six of us Denton cousins have been on a baby spree this year – six couples, five babies this year, seven all told, and one on the way! The great-grandchildren are the 4th generation, hence “G4″s. We all got together to introduce the babies and see my grandmother in the end of August.

Mind your Ps and Qs: Quintus is only 3 weeks younger than Petra; let’s see how they stack up
My Dad came down last week to help us with Petra. He brought an old baby nightgown that was worn either by him (late 1930’s) or his mother (nineteen-oughts). It just fits Petra, and with this hot weather, seemed cooler than her onesies (but it rides up somethin’ terrible).
One of the things Dad helped with was babysitting Petra for our first night out without her. We went to see a sneak preview of the new Harry Potter movie (very good). And this is what we found when we got home:
We also met up with one of Petra’s 3rd cousins, Stephen Shaw (my dad’s cousin’s grandchild). He’s about 18 years older than her and doing a summer school class at Harvard before his last year of high school.
